About the certification
IATF 16949:2016 is based on ISO 9001 and adds the technical requirements of the automotive industry. It is fully consistent with the ISO 9000 standards, but puts more weight on defect prevention and on reducing the quality variation and waste that easily arise in the automotive parts supply chain.
The aim of the standard is a quality management system that provides for continual improvement, emphasizes defect prevention, and reduces variation and waste in the automotive supply chain. The standard is clearly targeted and applicable.
It applies to manufacturing sites where customer-specified production parts and/or service parts are made, and to organizations throughout the automotive supply chain. It has become the common, single baseline requirement for quality management systems in the automotive industry worldwide.
