PPA Compounds
Material overview
Polyphthalamide is a family of high-performance semi-aromatic polyamides that offers higher heat resistance, lower moisture uptake and improved dimensional stability compared with conventional aliphatic polyamides. Reinforced and flame-retardant PPA compounds are used in high-temperature automotive, electrical, electronic and industrial applications and may provide an alternative to PPS or LCP in selected designs.
Key properties
-
High heat resistance for demanding thermal environments.
-
High strength and stiffness with good retention at elevated temperature.
-
Lower moisture absorption than conventional PA6 and PA66, supporting dimensional and electrical stability.
-
Resistance to oils, fuels, coolants and many industrial chemicals.
-
Good fatigue and wear performance for cyclic mechanical loads.
-
Good electrical insulation under high-temperature and high-humidity conditions.
Typical applications
-
Automotive under-hood components, including coolant lines, fuel-system parts, sensor housings and intake components.
-
High-temperature connectors, relays, switches, plugs and sockets.
-
Gears, pulleys, bearing housings, valves and pump components.
-
Heat-resistant appliance and power-tool components.
